“All design should be human centred, it’s as simple as that. And I mean human-centred, not ‘user-centred’ or ‘user-friendly‘”

“All design should be human centred, it’s as simple as that. And I mean human-centred, not ‘user-centred’ or ‘user-friendly‘”
I love this quote from David Townson,1 whose seven principles of human centred design are published on the Design Council website.2
Ethical design considers all humans who might be affected by your work, not just your immediate audience – all the humans involved in manufacturing, all those affected by sustainability, fair trade and ethical supply chains.
Many graphic design students choose to work in information design because they want to do work that’s useful and ethical.
That’s true of pretty much everyone in information design – including the writers, the testers, and the people who’ve arrived from professions such as law or medicine.
Human-centredness just takes user-centredness a little further.
